Changes in the national healthcare landscape over the past several decades have placed an increasingly diagnostic / decision-making responsibility on outpatient physical therapists. Accordingly, my teaching philosophy places heavy emphasis on clinical reasoning and thought process. Acquired basic knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pathology, and clinical skills, are combined with the application of relevant research to grow medical thinkers with enhanced clinical decision-making skills. I utilize an adult learning model that emphasizes mutual respect and mutual expectation of excellence. A structured yet nonthreatening environment, where students can reach outside their comfort zone without fearing failure, results in an enhanced learning experience. Combinations of lecture, questioning, repetition of key points, pictures and text, models, video, cases, and hands-on practice maximize academic success by leveraging individual preferred learning styles through sight, touch, voice, and hearing.
