Marshall’s annual Constitution Celebration includes visit from Supreme Court of Appeals of West Virginia

Marshall University is hosting multiple events as part of its annual Constitution Celebration, including an oral arguments session by the Supreme Court of Appeals of West Virginia at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 13, at the Joan C. Edwards Performing Arts Center.

Since 2004, Marshall’s observation of Constitution Week, sponsored by the John Deaver Drinko Academy and in partnership with the Simon Perry Center for Constitutional Democracy, has included a broad array of activities designed to advance civic literacy, model civil discourse and reinforce respect for the rule of law. The Constitution Celebration also helps build and maintain Marshall’s positive and lively campus culture.

“One important part of a college education involves preparing students to exercise the rights and responsibilities of citizenship,” said Dr. Montserrat Miller, executive director of the Drinko Academy.  “During our annual U.S. Constitution Celebration, we offer non-partisan programs designed to build student appreciation for the culture of democratic self-government.  Our republican system of government –at the local, the state, and the national levels—depends on informed citizen participation.”
