In-person counseling sessions are not available in the MU Counseling Center at this time, so a telemental health response plan has been initiated to ensure students can still receive counseling services. The center is transitioning to provide supportive counseling to students via Zoom Meeting. Staff are also available by phone and e-mail. A counseling center staff member will also contact individuals about psychiatric appointments, which will continue as planned.
Marshall University experts are also available for media inquiries:
Marshall’s Dr. Candace Layne, director of the Counseling Center, can speak to services currently offered for students, stress management tips and also tips for regulating and understanding emotions that are likely present at this time due to COVID-19. Layne can be reached at layne32@marshall.edu.
Marshall’s Paula Rymer, an instructor with the social work program whose expertise is mental health crisis, can speak to what individuals may be going through as they deal with traumatic events, such as COVID-19, and also has information on an increase to calls to crisis lines in the tri-state area. Rymer can be reached at rymer13@marshall.edu.
