Welcome to the Department of Communication Disorders!
On behalf of the faculty and staff in the Department of Communication Disorders, I would like to introduce you to the field of Speech-Language Pathology and the educational programs offered in Communication Disorders at Marshall University.

Any impairment of this ability can have far-reaching consequences, affecting every aspect of a person’s life, from learning, to work, to interactions with family, friends, and community. Speech-language pathologists provide services to prevent, diagnose, evaluate, and treat communication disorders.” (American Speech-Language Hearing Association)
In addition to helping people communicate, Speech-language pathologists are the preferred healthcare provider to evaluate and treat individuals with feeding and swallowing disorders.
Simply put, a degree in Communication Disorders will provide you with the opportunity to help individuals communicate and eat and do so in a variety of work settings including, but not limited to hospitals, home health, skilled nursing facilities, schools and early intervention. SLPs work with infants and children through the geriatric population.
As its principal responsibility, the Department of Communication Disorders prepares students to make positive contributions to the professional community of speech-language pathology. Our students are life-long learners who understand and appreciate their civic and professional responsibilities.
Our readily accessible and specialized faculty is committed to student success in and out of the classroom. We offer small classes and have faculty ready to assist you on your journey into the exciting field of communication disorders!
