The Outdoor Classroom was constructed to facilitate education and study habits in a pleasant outdoor environment.
Studies have found that outdoor classrooms can greatly improve retention and understanding. In Effects of Outdoor Education Programs for Children in California, researchers highlight greater self-esteem, cooperation, conflict resolution, leadership, relationship with peers, problem solving, motivation to learn, and behavior in class by students involved in outdoor education.
This Outdoor Classroom structure is located between Old Main and the Memorial Student Center. It was constructed and presented to Marshall College by the leadership honor society Omicron Delta Kappa in May, 1950.
