The Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) fellowship program is funded by the West Virginia Research Challenge Fund that is administered by the WV Higher Education Policy Commission, Division of Science and Research. This program encourages promising and enthusiastic young researchers from Marshall and other WV institutions to expand their experience in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

Program Highlights

SURE is a 10 week undergraduate research program funded by the state of WV
The 2025 program will be held May 12th – July 25th
Provides support in the form of a $4,800 stipend for students pursuing degrees in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields (Stipend support only – no funding for supplies is provided by this program)
Program is geared towards students planning to purse graduate degrees in STEM fields
All STEM students currently performing research are encouraged to apply
Completed applications, including letter of recommendation, must be received by 5pm on Friday, February 28th, 2025

Due to the intensity of the program, applicants may not enroll in other courses or maintain other weekday employment during their 10 week period of research.

Being part of the SURE program is not only educational but fun. You get to meet new people and work with people who are in different fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. There are also fun things to do during the ten week program like retreats, camping and movies. Above all, the SURE program prepares you in terms of research which is a major aspect of science. You can even get some of your work published in major scientific journals.
