Student Research & Creativity Symposium 2025

Marshall University 4th Student Research and Creativity Symposium: Celebrating Academic Excellence

On April 2rd and 3rd, Marshall University’s campus was abuzz with excitement as the much-anticipated 4th Student Research and Creativity Symposium unfolded. Following the success of the last few years’ events this year’s symposium delivered a series of inspiring student’s presentations and performances.

The symposium kicked off on April 2nd in the afternoon with a warm welcome from President Brad Smith, as an introduction to our Keynote Speaker, Dr. Moshe Szyf, setting the stage for two days of exploration into the diverse realms of science, arts, and creativity culminating on April 3rd with poster and oral presentations by Graduate and Undergraduate students showcasing their groundbreaking work across various disciplines through insightful presentations.

Our Keynote Speaker, Dr. Moshe Szyf (recently retired Professor and C Glaxo Smith Kline and James McGill Chair in Pharmacology at McGill University, Montreal) is the Founding co-director of the Sackler Institute for Epigenetics and Psychobiology at McGill University, Fellow of the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research Experience-based Brain and Biological Development program, Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, and the Canadian Academy of Health Science, Founder of the first “Pharma” to develop epigenetic pharmacology “Methylgene Inc.” and the first journal in epigenetics “Epigenetics”, Founder and CEO of HKG epiTherapeutics and founder of HKG Epitherapeutics Ltd.).

On Thursday, April 3rd, after the welcome address, the emphasis shifted entirely on students, who, during the entire day dazzle the audience with their innovative research and creative endeavors. One hundred and forty posters and 35 oral presentations were programed for display and discussions. Through the entire day, students engaged in dynamic presentations showcasing the depth and breadth of their scholarly contributions. Lunch time was reserved for a student panel organized by Makaylah Wheeler. The topic of discussion was related to the presentation by our Keynote Speaker, linking various aspects of epigenetics with student’s life.

As the 2025 Marshall University Student Research and Creativity Symposium draws to a close, we anticipate that the spirit of scholarly inquiry and creative expression will continue to resonate throughout our campus. This event exemplifies Marshall University’s dedication to nurturing a culture of academic excellence and innovation, enabling students to make significant contributions to society.

In the spirit of collaboration and discovery, we eagerly anticipate the ongoing success of this annual celebration of student achievement. Until next year, let us carry forward the spirit of inquiry and creativity sparked by this extraordinary symposium.
