What inspired you to pursue your degree with Marshall Online? The availability to take courses around my full-time teaching job and still allowing me to pursue another specialization was the key reason I applied for this program and pursued my degree with Marshall Online.
How do you stay motivated while studying online? Setting up a certain routine to allow uninterrupted time to dedicate to working on projects and discussion boards is crucial in staying motivated while doing an online program. Printing out the syllabus and marking off due dates when an item is completed motivates you to keep going.
What do you enjoy most about being an online student? I can work around my schedule is the item that I enjoy the most about being an online student. The elimination of time wasted in transit from and to class can be used directly in my coursework and I can be more comfortable in my home office.
What’s one thing you hope to achieve by the end of your program? I started my degree work with Marshall in 1995. By completing my EdS and then my EdD, I will start and end my education at the same school.
What tools or resources have been most helpful to you as an online student? Blackboard housing all the links and being a one-stop shop for all my items links and storage for my classes is the best resource and the most helpful. Setting up my OneDrive with class folders and saving all my items will help me in my portfolio and dissertation by keeping all the materials organized and easy to get to.
Share any advice you would give to someone new to online learning. My biggest advice is to set a schedule and stick to it. If you schedule one hour to work and you finish early, work ahead. Try to turn in items early so if something comes up, you have built-in some padding and you won’t get behind.
What are you hoping to accomplish as a council member? Being a council member I want to show others that being 47 and an online student is possible. Going back to school is
