Meet Ginger!
Name: Ginger Ward
Program: General Business, BA major/ Communications minor

What inspired you to pursue your degree with Marshall Online? I wanted to obtain a degree to further my career and so I would have the knowledge I need to hopefully start my own business. I needed classes that I could work around my schedule. Marshall Online allows me to earn my degree while working and being involved in my children’s extracurricular activities.
How do you stay motivated while studying online? I keep reminding myself that it will all be worth it when I can get a better position as well as have the knowledge I need to be a successful business owner.
What do you enjoy most about being an online student? I love the flexibility of when I can work on my classes. Being a mom of 3 and working full time, I need that flexibility.
What’s one thing you hope to achieve by the end of your program? I hope that I can participate in an internship somewhere within commuting distance of where I live. This is something I think could benefit my career and possibly start a new direction for me.
What tools or resources have been most helpful to you as an online student? I would say the most helpful resource I have had is my advisor. She is knowledgeable and answers any questions I have. If she doesn’t have the answer, she finds one for me.
Share any advice you would give to someone new to online learning. It can be challenging and sometimes overwhelming when you first start your online journey. My advice would be to give yourself grace and patience as you navigate a new way of learning. Lists will be your friend. Make a list of things you have to do each day or each week. Set reminders if you need to. I would also advise the use of the Office of Career Education in help in preparing your resume. And please, please utilize your advisor. They are there to help you with anything you need help with. Don’t be afraid to ask questions. We are all here to learn and help each other.
What are you hoping to accomplish as a council member? As a council member, I am hoping to help make the online learning community a place where people can ask questions and learn from each other. I hope that my input on initiatives for online learning can help future online students to learn and succeed throughout their college journey. I am excited to see what the council can bring to students within the online learning platform.
