About the Natural Resources & the Environment
Man’s interaction with the environment is the focus of Natural Resources and the Environment as we seek to prepare students for careers or advanced studies in management, conservation, protection, regulation, and restoration of natural resources.
- Integration of the human dimensions of resource use with conservation and management forms the foundation of the Natural Resources and Recreation Management Program.
- Environmental Science merges concepts in geology, ecology, biology, chemistry and physics to provide students with a strong science foundation, which forms the basis of understanding of environmental issues.
- The focus of Specialty Agriculture is sustainable, high-yield agriculture with emphasis in agribusiness and agritourism.
Programs within the NRE share core courses introducing ecological concepts and foundational principles in sustainability and resource management. The 3 programs incorporate technology such as geographic information systems, remote sensing, and discipline specific instrumentation to provide students with up to date educational experiences preparing them for decision making in our modern world. Additionally, the resource-oriented programs integrate understanding of laws and regulations relevant to aspects of conservation, protection, and management of natural resources on which students are focused. The complementary programs also offer students interested in environmental, agricultural and resource sciences opportunities for research and internship experiences throughout their education to support successful transition to the workforce or further education.
