That’s what we’re here to help with! We can arrange mock interviews with staff and faculty across campus that can help you practice for your interview so you can be as prepared as possible for the real interviews. Part of what makes our campus community so great is all of the wonderful faces willing to help our students succeed and practice interviews like this.
Relax
Deep breaths. Think of the interview as a conversation, not an interrogation. Arrive at least 10 minutes before your scheduled start time. Plan for something fun later in the day to distract yourself and celebrate a job well done in the interview! You’re prepared, you know yourself, you’ve got this!
Dress well
Professional/business attire is best. Wear something that makes you look and feel your best! If you need assistance in finding affordable business attire, contact our office and we can help find a solution for you.
Do your homework
Read up on current events, world and national. If you’re applying to the Truman scholarship, you should know about Harry S. Truman. Know about the scholarship program you’re applying for, what it requires from you- is there a post-graduation commitment? Be prepared to give an idea of how you plan to fulfill it. You don’t need hard deadlines and answers, committees just like to see that you’ve given some thought to it.
Know yourself and be yourself
Why do you want this scholarship? What is your motivation? Are two of the questions you will likely have to answer in the application and interview process. Through the application process, you’ll figure both of these out, just be sure you’re able to articulate your answer succinctly.
