This change will affect all students, faculty and staff including the School of Medicine and Marshall Health.
Beginning at 4:00 am on Sunday, August 9th, 2020, Marshall University will be upgrading our existing network firewall. We are planning for up to a four (4) hour disruption of all Internet access and many services during this time. This will disrupt most network services which rely on an active connection through the firewall – e.g. telephone and fax services, VPN, Single Sign-On to cloud-hosted applications (where you sign on with your MUNet credentials), etc. Please note that VPN services will remain on the existing firewall system until a later date. We will notify you when VPN services are scheduled to be moved to the new firewall.
What do you need to do?
- You may check the status of the maintenance at https://itservicestatus.marshall.edu/ any time after 4:00 am.
- Please contact the IT Service Desk if you are aware of any websites that are not accessible after 8:00 am. We also ask your assistance in identifying and reporting any technical issues with online services after the upgrade.
- Watch for future announcements regarding updates to the VPN services at a later date.
Benefits:
- A modern next-generation firewall provides improved internet security services.
- Delivers higher data processing and faster internet speeds.
- Provides intelligent application services to optimize voice and video for collaboration and instruction, as well as gaming experience for residence hall students.
