Migration to Microsoft Teams

Share

This change is being made for all students, faculty and staff with the exception of the School of Medicine.

On Friday, June 12, 2020, Marshall University will begin migrating from Microsoft Skype for Business to Microsoft Teams. The migration is expected take up to two weeks and is expected to be completed before July 1st.   Clients have been separated into groups to process this upgrade and will receive an email with their scheduled migration date.  The expected schedule of groups is listed below.  A group of faculty and staff have been part of an Early Adopter group since September 2019 and even more joined in using Microsoft Teams for video conferences with an accelerated roll out when COVID-19 began.

Microsoft Teams is a workspace for calls, real-time collaboration, chat, meetings, file/application sharing, and much more. Teams is fully integrated with Microsoft Office 365 and helps our students, faculty, and staff work more effectively and efficiently.

Please note, any meetings, including recurring meetings, that were previously scheduled by a user in Skype for Business will be automatically rescheduled as Teams Meetings.

What do I need to do?

  1. Visit the Marshall Microsoft Teams site and review the training videos and documentation to familiarize yourself with Microsoft Teams and the integration with other Microsoft products and services as a replacement for Skype for Business.
  2. Your Polycom telephone will be automatically updated and moved to Teams.
  3. Make sure your computer operating system is up to date.  Teams is compatible with Microsoft Windows 10, macOS Catalina, iOS 13, iPadOS 13, and Android v10, 9, 8, & 7. Please contact the IT Service desk if you need assistance.
  4. Make sure you are using the latest version of the Office applications available at: Office.com.
    1. For each device you use, login to Office.com with your MUNet username and password to install the latest version of all the Office 365 applications including Microsoft Teams.
    2. Macintosh users may need to remove older Office licenses after installing the latest version of Office, even if you uninstalled the older version first. See How to remove Office license files on a Macintosh.
    3. For each mobile device like an iPad, Android tablet, iPhone or Android phone search the appropriate app store for the latest version of Microsoft Teams.  Consider individually installing the other Office applications (Microsoft OneDrive, Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.)
  5. After you have been migrated you’ll need to sign out of Microsoft Teams, close all other applications and reboot your computer.
  6. To update mobile devices, sign out, and sign back in.
  7. If you run into any problems with your migration, please contact the IT Service Desk.
