Health Insurance Information

Marshall University requires all F-1 and J-1 international students to maintain adequate health insurance while studying at Marshall University. Insurance will protect you against the very high medical costs in the United States.

F-1 & J-1 Students

Marshall University partners with Insurance for Students to provide an insurance plan designed especially for students studying in the US.  Students may enroll in the plan through the Insurance for Students website.

F-1 Student Athletes

Marshall University’s Athletics department has arranged for a health insurance plan that is best suited to the needs of student athletes.  International student athletes may enroll through the GeoBlue website.  Be sure to use access code RVT-51627.

Government Sponsored

International students receiving health insurance coverage through a government sponsorship are not required to purchase an Insurance for Students plan.  Be sure to complete the Financial Certification Form linked below.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes.  You are required to maintain continuous health insurance coverage, even if you are not in the United States during the annual summer vacation.
Yes; however, there is a lengthy waiver process that must be completed prior to registering for classes. Waivers are not guaranteed approval and may take several weeks for a decision. If you have questions about this process, please email iss@marshall.edu.
Yes. You are required to purchase summer insurance if you are graduating in May. If you have additional questions, please email iss@marshall.edu.
