The National Society of ACTA Scholars is an honorary society founded by the American Council of Trustees and Alumni in 2020. Marshall University was one of the first higher education institutions to establish a chapter of this honor society, and remains one of the most active chapters in the country, promoting the study of the arts and sciences and civic engagement for college students. The National Society of ACTA Scholars is sponsored by the John Deaver Drinko Academy at Marshall University.
The National Society of ACTA Scholars encourages students to take courses in U.S. History and Government, as well as economics and literature and foreign languages. Three of the required courses are built into Marshall’s Core II curriculum, with 2 more built into the College of Liberal Arts requirements. To qualify as an ACTA Scholar, students must complete 6 of the 7 required courses in the subjects previously mentioned. Since only a few majors require students to study these subjects, the Society of ACTA Scholars is a unique and distinguished group of students who go beyond the normal required classes at Marshall to engage in these subjects.
Being an ACTA Scholar includes benefits such as special events, chapter meetings and officer positions, an extra item on your resume, and networking with other ACTA Scholars. This unique honorary society allows students interested in civic culture and the study of the arts and sciences to gather with like-minded students and receive recognition for their hard work.
