Elizabeth Gibson Drinko has long been an outstanding supporter of academic programs at Marshall University, primarily through the John Deaver and Elizabeth G. Drinko Distinguished Chair in Liberal Arts, established with a $1 million endowment in 1987, and the John Deaver Drinko Academy.
A native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, she graduated in 1940 from Crafton High School where she was a member of the National Honor Society and president of both Student Council and the Leaders Corps. She earned her B.A. degree in 1944 from Westminster College in New Wilmington, Pennsylvania, majoring in psychology. She was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha, Panhellenic Council, Mermaids acrobatic swimming team, YWCA and May Court. She served an internship at the Neuropsychological Institute of Living in Hartford, Connecticut.
She holds Honorary Doctorates from Marshall University, Westminster College and Keystone College.
She married John Deaver Drinko on May 14, 1946, and they are the parents of four children, Elizabeth Drinko Sullivan, Dr. Diana Lynn Drinko, John Randall Drinko and Jay Deaver Drinko, and are grandparents of eleven and great-grandparents of two.
Mrs. Drinko is an officer and director of Cleveland Institute of Electronics Inc., World College Inc. and Double D Ranch. She is an officer and trustee of The John D. and Elizabeth G. Drinko Charitable Foundation, The Mellen Foundation and The Hostetler Foundation.
A member of Heights United Presbyterian Church, she is active with the United Presbyterian Women’s Group. She is past president of the Alumnae Association of Zeta Tau Alpha, an officer and member of the Cleveland Council of Panhellenic and chairwoman of the Lyndhurst (Ohio) Combined Health Drive. She also has been active with the United Presbyterian Missionary Conference, Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts.
Mrs. Drinko is a member of the College Club of Cleveland, Mayfield Country Club, The Union Club of Cleveland and O’Donnell Golf Club of Palm Springs, California.
