Indicate the workshop/training you’d like to request, and if necessary indicate more than a one-time slot for your request.
“Homesickness Survival Kit” can be a 4-session support group, or a one-time workshop. Dates for each semester will be announced. This support group/workshop will assist students in coping with homesickness, assist with identifying campus and community supports, and assist students with acclimating to campus, college life, and the Huntington area.
Mindfulness for the College Student – Mindfulness is a tool that assists with recognizing conscious awareness and living in the here-and-now. Mindfulness aids in stress reduction and relaxation. This 30 minute to 1-hour training will teach students mindfulness tools that can be applied in day-to-day life to assist with stress management, stress reduction, and decreasing anxiety.
Question, Persuade, Refer Suicide Prevention Training (QPR) is a 1-hour training that teaches students how to recognize signs of suicidal behavior, and how to act on their concerns to help save a life from suicide. QPR stands for Question, Persuade, Refer and is a federally-funded prevention program that is also utilized by Prevent Suicide WV. This is a training for faculty, staff, and students. After the training, participants are certified in QPR Suicide Prevention.
Relaxation Techniques in a Fast-Paced World is a 30-minute workshop will teach students progressive muscle relaxation, deep breathing and other relaxation strategies to help students learn to apply self-care in their daily lives.
LGBTQ+ Ally-ship Workshop is a 2-hour training that focuses on LGBTQ+ awareness, and the opportunity to learn about LGBTQ+ identities and topics and discusses privilege, prejudice, and discrimination. This workshop is meant to spread awareness and encourage learning, and participants/organizations will receive an Ally Emblem Sticker to indicate they are a safe person for LGBTQ+ students to approach for help.
Stomp Out Stress is a 30-minute-to-1-hour training that teaches students stress management strategies to aid with identifying, managing, and coping with stress. Students will learn relaxation and mindfulness techniques, and how to work through daily life stressors.
Take a Glance Into the Marshall University Counseling Center – This presentation will introduce our center, staff, and services to your program, college, or organization in order to demystify counseling. You and your students, peers, or colleagues will learn the best way to access our services.
Teaching Students with Mental Health Concerns is a 1-hour training for faculty and staff that assists with identifying mental health symptoms and concerns, strategies to communicate and interact with someone that may have a mental health concern and/or diagnosis, and campus resources that can assist faculty and staff with student concerns.
TIPS for University is a 2-hour training for students that increases knowledge about alcohol and its effects, as well as ways to intervene with peers to prevent alcohol-related incidents and how to interact socially with others when alcohol is involved.
